A Gurkha soldier, who fought 30 train robbers

This news is quite old. But when i was surfing the internet and knowing more about Gurkha, i came to see this news.
We have been listening a lot of brave stories of the Gurkha in British Army. No one seems to care about the bravery of Gurkha in Indian Army. For those, who are proud to be Gurkha :

Bishnu Shrestha, a brave Gurkha soldier in Indian Army, defeated 30 train robbers while returning home after a voluntary retirement.

Shresta is posted at Ranchi and was proceeding on leave to Pokhra in Nepal. He boarded the Hatia-Gorakhpur Jn Maurya Express from Ranchi on Thursday evening. When the raid took place, he was fast asleep on his berth.
Updated according to a news in Indian newspaper Times of India of September 4, 2010. The report of Indian Army awarding Soury Chakra proved to be wrong as his name was not included in the official Indian Army site.
I dont know if he was awarded with Soury Chakra, but his braveness should be respected by all Indians. Being a Nepali citizen, for the protection of Indian Nationals, a officer risked his life and most likely was not even awarded with the soury chakra which he was promised to.
The rest of the news goes here:
"Suddenly, there were shouts and the sound of running feet," Shresta recounted from his bed at Kasturba Gandhi Hospital in Chittaranjan. "Somebody pulled at my bedclothes. I sat up and found a number of people standing near my feet. They demanded that I hand over all my cash and valuables. There was confusion all around and I shouted that I am an Indian Army jawan. The criminals backed off and turned their attention to a woman and her child, who were on a berth close by," Shresta added.

He lost his cool when he saw a miscreant trying to pull out the girl, about 8 years old, from the berth and snatch a necklace from her mother.
"I am a soldier and get paid to protect citizens of this country. I could not sit back and watch as passengers were looted. I pulled out my khukri and attacked the criminals. Initially, they were taken by surprise and I succeeded in connecting with at least three of them. The blows were severe and they must have got themselves admitted to some hospital. By then, the criminals started fighting back. They fired a shot that missed me. At one point of time, the khukri fell from my hand and I was overpowered. They picked it up and used it on me," the jawan said.

Another NTY promotion in London

With a view to draw maximum number of tourists into Nepal, the London-based Nepali Embassy, in cooperation with Nepal Tourism Board (NTB), has promoted the Nepal Tourism Year 2011.
The double-decker London buses with imprints of promotional theme, 'Naturally Nepal', were seen in the streets of London.
In my last post, I posted about the Nepal Tourism Year 2011 promotion in Hongkong and USA, and now its in London. Lets hope to see the promotion in the rest countries too including Nepal (which seems not quite interested in promoting NTY 2011).
London Gold buses, wherein adverts will stay on a rotation of key Central London routes, run through the highly populated yet tourist centres such as Trafalgar Square, Liverpool Street, Bond Street, Kensington, and Oxford street etc, the statement reads.

Bringing the three genres of rap, rock and reggae together, the first House of Music festival is set to mesmerize Kathmandu’s music lovers in the beautiful ambience of Patan Museum today.
Sanjay Shrestha, one of the organizers and also a band member of Joint Family, shares that they always wanted to do this festival. And this time around seemed like the right moment to do it.

“House of Music has always been about promoting music. The bands in the lineup are really good at what they do, and this festival is trying to bring some good music for people to enjoy,” says Shrestha.

With Lyrics Inthependense (LI) for rap, Albatross for rock, and Joint Family Internationale for reggae, the lineup doesn’t get any better than those.

Scuba Diving in Nepal

Scuba Diving in Nepal has officially come into operations.
Dragonfly Adventures Nepal - the first and only scuba diving center in Nepal.

Vivek Sen Gurung  is the diving instructor and the dive master and he wanted to show that it's not only in the wide clean ocean that one can dive. Gurung has been diving in various hotspots in Nepal since last year.

One can expect to come across various creepiie-crawlies when they dive.  The centre is at it's very initial phase and is currently teaching scuba diving by doing an introductory course called Discover Scuba Diving which involves practicing in a swimming pool first.

Sadly, those who arent a certified diver (most of us) cannot scuba dive in the open water's of Nepal. BUT if you have cash and are looking for way's to spend it then I surely would encourage you to become a dive master!

Nepal : Military Training Proposal

The sub-committee of the Constitutional Council on Friday rejected the UCPN (Maoist) proposal to include a provision of compulsory military training to the population of above 18 years of age in the new constitution.
The meeting of the sub-committee formed to solve contentious issues in the statute-drafting process made such decision this morning.

Emerging from the meeting, sub-committee coordinator and Maoist Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal informed that they have agreed not to include such provision in the constitution.
Today's meeting was shortened due to the mass gathering of the Nepali Congress.
Now, lets comment on this, would you like to be trained (military) when you grow 18, so that you can contribute to the nation if necessary?
Please comment either in facebook or blogger.

Super Sherpa

A 51-year-old Nepalese climber known as the "Super Sherpa" has broken his own record by scaling Mount Everest for the 21st time, officials say.

Apa Sherpa reached the summit early on Wednesday after climbing all night in conditions expedition organisers described as "perfect."

Mr Sherpa is leading an environmental expedition that plans to carry down tonnes of garbage left on the mountain.

He also hopes to raise awareness of the impact of climate change.

"If my ascent promotes the cause and helps to protect the mountain, I am always ready to climb," he told the AFP news agency before his latest expedition.

Mr Sherpa grew up in the foothills of Everest and began carrying equipment and supplies for trekkers and mountaineers from the age of 12.

He first climbed Everest in 1989 and has repeated the feat almost annually since then.
